Zoe got her first haircut today! It's actually been a long time coming ... her hair has been so out of control for so long! Yes, her mullet is kind of cute but her bangs are just getting so hard to handle. I didn't feel comfortable cutting her hair for the first time (officially) by myself, so I convinced Mike to take her to a "kids salon" at the Topanga Canyon Mall. It's the same "kids salon" that I made fun of when I saw they were charging kids 12 and under $24 for a haircut (that's more expensive than what me and Mike pay for our hair to be cut). I couldn't believe how crazy expensive that was -- paying so much more just so your kid could sit in a spaceship instead of a salon chair and have cartoons playing on the tv's that filled the salon. And here I was ... desperate to get a haircut for my little girl and desperate to make sure she had a good "first time" experience (as in, her eyes didn't get poked out by mommy and her hair looked semi decent enough that we wouldn't have to shave everything off =) ...). I justified my decision by telling myself I wouldn't pay $24 every single time ... that once the stylist cut her hair the first time I would be able to at least maintain her bangs on my own (let's hope I stick to that plan and don't end up taking her to this place every time she needs a trim).
I have to admit that as the time came closer for her to get her hair did, I got more and more nervous. I was afraid that she wouldn't cooperate and because she wouldn't cooperate her hair would turn out bad. Fortunately, a lollipop, a spaceship seat, "Finding Nemo" on the tv screen and a funny, quirky stylist was all it took for my little girl to sit still and allow her hair to be cut. She's never had a lollipop before so she was a little unsure at first what to do with it. But once she got the hang of it, there was no taking it away from her ... the stylist even had enough time to actually style her hair by putting a twisty and some purple flowers. I was so proud of Zoe ... she did great and her hair actually came out super cute!!! She definitely looked more grown up (there was no denying she was a toddler now) and a lot more Asian =).
